What to Expect at Our Cleanups
Volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks designed to improve the lake. For all lakes, volunteers can either get in canoes or kayaks, or walk around in adjacent neighborhoods to pick up litter and help us keep track of the debris entering the lake.
On many lakes, volunteers have the option of putting on chest waders and getting into the shallow edge of the lake to remove weeds and install plants. We try to match the volunteer to the task, as everything the volunteers do is helpful.
What to Bring:
- Water in a reusable container
- Closed-toe shoes (required for safety)
- Hat and sunglasses (recommended)
- Sunscreen
- Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty
- A positive attitude and enthusiasm!
All other supplies (gloves, tools, waders, etc.) are provided by SoUL.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our specialized volunteer roles.
Do I need to sign up in advance for cleanup events?
While not always mandatory, signing up helps us plan for supplies and communicate any last-minute changes (like weather delays). Please check the details for each specific event on the calendar.
Can I bring my children to cleanup events?
Yes! Our cleanup events are family-friendly. Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. We have appropriate tasks for volunteers of all ages. Safety is our top priority.
What if there's bad weather?
In case of severe weather, cleanup events may be postponed or canceled. We will update the event on the calendar and attempt to notify registered volunteers via email.
How long do cleanup events typically last?
Most of our lake cleanup events last for about 2 to 3 hours, usually on weekend mornings. Specific times will be listed for each event.
Can I get community service hours for participating?
Yes! We're happy to verify your volunteer hours for school, work, or community service requirements. Please bring any necessary forms and let our event coordinator know at the beginning of the event.
